Join the Lions!
What in the World is Australian Football?
Australian Football is an incredibly fast paced, physical, and fun sport! It’s like soccer if you could hit and use your hands. It’s like rugby if there was no line of scrimmage. Don’t worry we’ll explain all the rules and skills to you. All you need is a passion for sport, competition, and a desire to learn something new and meet some great people!
Who Should Join?
NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED for new players! That said, those who have experience in sports such as Soccer, Football, Basketball, Tennis, and Volleyball will have skills that transfer very easily into Footy. The Lions are recruiting now, and there has never been a better time to join the club!
There are opportunities to play locally in the Southern California Australian Football League (SCAFL).
The Lions also have a traveling team that plays clubs from across the United States (Lions road trips are second to none!). The Lions have won multiple USAFL championships with a Division 4 championship in 2015 and Division 1 championships in 2006 and 2001.
Want to Keep it Social?
Join us for co-ed footy, a non-contact version of Australia’s favorite game. It’s a fun-filled, energetic, co-educational, tag version of the game. This laid back social league is a great way for beginners from children to adults to try the sport. New players are mixed in with veteran players to ensure healthy competition, and skills training is provided for all new players.
Sports not your thing, but you love a good party and want to meet some great people? The Lions are looking for social members, and we have a strong social calendar for this year with events like Australia Day, Pie Day, the Flip Flop Formal, and the AFL Grand Final Night.
How Serious Are We?
The Lions are a social club first. That said, we enjoy our tradition of success on the field. By joining the Lions there is potential to reach the highest levels of Footy in the U.S.
Ever wanted to represent your country in a sport? The Lions have sent multiple players to play for the U.S.A. Revolution, the Men’s Australian Football National Team over the past 15 years in Australia. The next International Cup is in 2017, and you could be next!
