ANZAC Day Commemorative Service on board the USS Midway

The USS Midway will host a service on ANZAC Day, Tuesday, April 25 at 8am.

From their website:

Join the Consulates-General of Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Defence Force for the ANZAC Day Commemorative Service San Diego on Tuesday, 25 April 2017.

The service will begin promptly at 8.00am and will be followed by a Gunfire Breakfast on board the USS Midway.

For security reasons aboard the USS Midway, registration and ID is required.

Between 2014 and 2018 Australia and New Zealand will commemorate the Anzac Centenary, marking 100 years since our nation’s involvement in the First World War.

The Anzac Centenary is a milestone of special significance to all Australians and New Zealanders. The First World War helped define us as a people and as a nation.

During the Anzac Centenary we will remember not only the original Anzacs who served at Gallipoli and the Western Front, but commemorate more than a century of service by Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women.

The Anzac Centenary Program encompasses all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations in which Australians and New Zealanders have been involved.

The Program aims to give everyone the opportunity to honour the service and sacrifice of all those who have worn our nation’s uniform.

2017 Co-Ed Touch Footy League

Join us for the co-ed, non-contact version of Australia’s favorite game. Footy is a game based on Australian Football (which is NOT rugby). It is a fun-filled, energetic, co-educational, tag version of the game. This laid back social league is a great way for beginners from children to adults to try the sport. New players are mixed in with veteran players to ensure healthy competition, and skills training is provided for all new players.

What is Footy?

Imagine soccer, volleyball and basketball rolled into one cool game where everyone gets to be the quarterback at the same time. Another way to think about it is that Footy is like Ultimate Frisbee, with a few twists. The ball is passed quickly from player to player by either handpassing or kicking. There is no turnover rule, so the ball is almost always “live” resulting in a fast, free flowing game where everyone is involved. Scoring is usually frequent, so games are not only fun to play, but fast and exciting to watch!

The rules are simple and easy to learn (it will take about 10 minutes) and NO EXPERIENCE is required. In fact, we encourage it as the game is designed for complete novices! We’ll supply all the gear all you need to do is come dressed to play in shorts and shoes (cleats if you have them, they are not necessary).

There will be Social Events after each Co-Ed Footy Match starting with the 10th anniversary of our World Famous Pie Day on March 11, 2017!
